Spring CSM Brew Day

Engaging with our community is what makes us love our jobs – we love meeting curious drinkers who push us to be creative and appreciate how flavors change season to season. To help foster that connection, Bløm offers a growler club, an idea based loosely on the community supported agriculture (CSA) model, where farmers sell shares to customers in exchange for weekly produce deliveries. In our case, you sign up and pay at the beginning of each six month session for six months worth of growler or howler fills, at a heavily discounted rate.

One perk (among many) of being a growler club member, is that during each six month session we hold a members-only party. Though, we use the term party loosely. To be honest, these get togethers are more often a time when we let membership to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty. Not that we don’t love a party, but it’s not everyday that you get to be part of the brewing process, right? In the cellar, managing the equipment and processing ingredients. We love our members, and we want them to have a hands-on working knowledge of how our products are made. It always provides some insight so they can help suggest future flavors, too.

During our spring party last month, we invited our members to be part of our Hoppy Peach brew day. They were in charge of pressing all of the peaches, helping to add the fresh-pressed juice to the tanks, and then doing a hops rubbing to get to know how hop oils are released and change in different environments. The result? One ridiculously good batch of our Hoppy Peach Cider. And a large mess of peach guts to clean up (don’t worry… happens every time).
